ICE and UMIC at the 2013 Mobile World Congress

During the Mobile World Congress (MWC) week in Barcelona, the RWTH University was present in two different stands, displaying some of the latest research achievements. From the 25th to the 28th of February, the attendees of the MWC could get an overview of the UMIC Research Cluster at the official stand of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia or delve into the details of several research projects at the dedicated UMIC stand.

Four UMIC projects were exhibited at the MWC from different chairs from the Electrical engineering and Informatics faculties of the RWTH University, including two from the Chair for Communication and Distributed Systems, headed by Prof. Klaus Wehrle, one from the chair of Mixed Signal CMOS Circuits, headed by Prof. Renato Negra, and a final one from the chair for Software for Systems on Silicon of ICE, headed by Prof. Leupers. In the latter, researchers from ICE showcased a framework for Multi-core programming called MAPS, demonstrating how applications can be automatically deployed onto parallel, heterogeneous computing platforms.

The MWC is the largest exhibition on mobile communication and mobile internet technology in the world. It adds to a series of events at which MAPS has been presented to a broad audience. Being at such large-scale trade fairs continues to be an excellent experience, in which old contacts with industry are met, new contacts are made and important feedback is collected to continue improving the MAPS framework.
